04/09/2018

With The Home Depot acquisition of The Company Store, December 19, 2017, they've decided to pull the package insert program from the market. TSW recommends Plow & Hearth Package insert Program as a great alternative.

Art Tuesday - Dubiousness

06/06/2017
It is Art Tuesday at TSWUS and todays focus is fun. Sometimes Art is not designed to be serious. Sometimes it is meant to lift the corners of your mouth, either in a full smile, or just a quirky What is that supposed to mean? gesture. We are featuring one of our more comical pieces today, which is a painting on board with silkscreen overlay. It is by Nathan Henry of New Orleans. It is worth taking a closer look, and it makes us smile while gracing our break room area.

Art Tuesday - Texas in a Nutshell

03/14/2017

It is Art Tuesday, and this week we are celebrating the launch of our Houston office, and our SXSW sponsorship on Thursday. Music, books, hats and longhorns are all  "de rigueur" in Texas, but there is something even more quintessentially Texan. A pair of blue jeans on a barbed wire fence. We are fortunate to have this image evoking the spirit of Texas by Bob Calbert. His amazing ability to capture a moment in time, and a feeling of both comfort an belonging resonate well with us here at TSWUS. The fact that he also often shoots in black and white makes it even better!

We welcome the Lonestar State team to the fold with open arms, and can't wait to see how the adventure unfolds as we "Go West Young Man".

Art Tuesday: Making Art & Making Friends

10/25/2016
Art Tuesday at The Specialist Works US and we are kicking off the week with making art and making friends. Our featured piece is Thomas Swoffords Making Friends, one of the newest additions to our office walls.Although artists may have unlimited resources for circulating their work today, the process of art making, at least in the traditional sense, has always been accompanied with solitude; time necessary for working on their craft. With few exceptions, being a Fine Artist is the most isolating of the core art forms. We think Thomas Swofford understands this and we like how he has chosen to depict it. The pen, in black and white, is the largest and most detailed subject of the piece; suggesting its authority to bring life to the drawings. The two animals are less rendered but are fully colored indicating that they are alive and the pen, while powerful, is merely a toolperhaps matching his opinion on art. All of this depicted in a greatly appropriate cartoon stylelike his opinion on art, its kind of fun, not meant to be taken too seriously.

I'd Beavery happy to help you.

09/20/2016
Meyers-Briggs personality profiles are meant to inform us about ourselves and our coworkers.  Here at The Specialist Works US, we have an abundance of Beavers.  Good thing too, because Beavers are make good workers.
Beavers are in the Creative and caring quadrant. They like to see the big picture, are imaginative, forward-thinking, organized, and hard working - occasionally Beavers neglect themselves in favor of being helpful, so they need looking after.

We will be looking after our newest Beaver closely.  Artist Jon Deuschele from Zimbabwe was in the area and available to create this beautifully simple interpretation. Having never before seen this North American flat tailed semi-aquatic mammal, I think he captured it perfectly. Thank you Jon. Hop over to Instagram for a look @jondeuschle

Art Tuesdays - Goodbye for now

08/16/2016
It is Art Tuesday at the Specialist Works US and today I, Ben the Canadian temporary import worker, am once again breaking the fourth wall of internet blogging. On this day, we would like to highlight our personal contribution to the world of contemporary art, a movement we call post-photoshopism. We snapped this group selfie with our in-house TSW US selfie stick. Unfortunately, Stephanie and Ryan were unable to be there, but the magic of modernity has made it possible to include them in the moment.

The last time I wrote plainly as my true self I was here to say hello. Now I am here to say goodbye. My months in Atlanta have been a blast. The people in this city are vibrant, energetic, and incredibly friendly. Whether its the diversity of Ponce City Market, the authenticity of the Old Fourth Ward, or the luxury of Buckhead, the ATL has a niche for everyone. My time at TSW US has been incredibly powerful. In addition to immersing myself in the brands of our clients, I was able to meet some wonderful people in the media industry and expand my understanding of print advertising. This would not have been possible without the support of the entire office. So to a city and people I can not wait to revisit, adios Atlanta!

Art Tuesday: Gifts and Gimbap

08/09/2016

It is Art Tuesday at The Specialist Works US and today we are highlighting abstract art from a local artist. Some time ago, a Korean restaurant where I used to frequently eat closed down, and being a regular they decided to leave one of their paintings with me. It was created by the owner's daughter, and we love the way the that the broad pastel brushstrokes blend into each other, weaving over and under its neighbors to create a rich, deeply textured canvas.

The restaurant sold food, and we sell advertising, but both of our businesses are enriched by the presence of this painting. Our team at TSWUS comes from a wide range of disciplines, with backgrounds in psychology, art, politics, tech, marketing, and hospitality. We have all tried our hands in different careers and businesses - some of which, like the restaurant, are now closed and a part of the past. But we are individuals who are adaptive and creative, so we adapted and created new chapters. Stay sunny and keep an eye on the big picture! As you can see here, it is actually massive (Chick-fil-A Pez dispenser shown for scale).

Art Tuesday - Aubrey Beardsley

08/02/2016
It is Art Tuesday at The Specialist Works US and today we reminisce on legends. We are incredibly happy to have this Aubrey Beardsley sketch in our office. In this self-portrait Beardsley stands with his hands behind his back, confident and poised. A public and private eccentric, Beardsley never failed to shock or feared reprise. More than anything, his art was honest and insightful, which is really what matters - that expression lets you into the heart of the artist and alters the heart of the viewer. This is also the core of good creative, and perhaps a reason why the work that Beardsley did for playwrights and other brands was so memorable.

Art Tuesday - Still Life

07/26/2016
It is Art Tuesday at The Specialist Works US and today we would like to highlight a still life by my mother, Pat Donohue, produced when she was 12 while living in New York. The warm richness of the colors reminds us of Matisse, as the gradient smoothly moves from orange to auburn to red, connecting the scene effortlessly in a sphere of color.

Life can get cluttered sometimes, and at TSWUS we ended last week busy and started this week the same. But the important thing is to keep chipping away at the heap, to constantly count your blessings, and to stay focused. Whether it’s moving to the Big Apple or reinventing the apple pie, the future looks fruitful. We can’t wait to sink our teeth in!

Art Tuesday - Silliness and Balance

07/19/2016

It is Art Tuesday at The Specialist Works US and today we are embracing fun. In a recent trip to New Orleans, we acquired this piece of art that exemplifies just that. Often in life, we over think the things that are unimportant, and fail to embrace the short snippets of fun that are intended to jostle us along in our day. This painting on board (Masonite if we can be candid) is a mix of thoughtfulness and of silliness. Just the right mix for a full day that allows a person to embrace the need to be focused, and the need to let go. Balance has a habit of creating productivity. At TSWUS as serious as we are about business, we intend that every day has an element of silliness, and that every day we each laugh and leave here with a smile of either satisfaction or of fondness. The name of this painting is Giggly Cigarette Girl. Can’t get any better than that – Can it?

Art Tuesday - Lino Cuts

06/27/2016
It is Art Tuesday at The Specialist Works US and we are featuring one of our favorite executions, the Lino Cut! This rose and skeleton imagery will fall into our Tombstones for Media collection, but we wanted to highlight it as a piece of Art first. Bold graphics in black and red are reminiscent of the spot color used in older newsprint ads. The juxtaposition of the beauty of the rose, and the severity of the skeleton is shocking. It will turn some people off at a glance. When you look closer though, the detail of the bird skeleton is actually quite beautiful. This piece brings the question to the forefront: “Do shock campaigns turn off buyers or make them think and look further?”

Art Tuesday - The Summer Solstice

06/21/2016
Today, June 21st is the longest day of the year. The Summer Solstice marks the change in seasons abut it also represents a point in the year after which all other days will be shorter. Time is a thief.

Seasons are thieves, but they are also times of rebirth, change, and in all of their power there is stark beauty. The change into summer from spring is much like our recent change to being part of a larger business family - very full of light.

To celebrate this "brightest" day of the year, we have selected our sunniest art piece for Art Tuesday. This pottery piece is on the verge of kitsch, and stretches our concept of Art, but the ruddiness of the clay made us love it for its tactile character. Shine On!

Art Tuesday - Walking House by Lee Laney

05/17/2016
It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media and today we are highlighting a painting recently purchased at Artsapaloosa. This work by Lee Laney of Uncle Lee’s Folk Art is painted on board. It spoke to us because it is representative of where we are as a company right now. When a house is truly a home, it is a haven from the outside world. It offers stability and warmth, and does not change unless you change it. But what happens when your house starts walking? Our house is starting to walk, and we are interested to see where it is taking us. While stability and freedom from change are good things in moderation, too much of them can make life stale. Adventure and the unknown are part of growing, and we are very excited that our “house” has decided to take us for a walk. Walk on!

Art Tuesday Wise Owl

03/29/2016
It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media and we are reworking our office space to make room for our new hires. In doing so we are moving many of our art pieces and adding to collections to change the look of the office layout. We recently bought this beautiful cut metal owl in New Orleans, and will be making it the focal point of an installation in a room where most of our decor is metal.
We are hoping it inspires "wisdom" throughout the day. If not, at least we will have something interesting to look at rather than the commercially produced "art" in most office spaces.
We may be clinging to individuality by a thin thread, but for as long as the thread holds we'll do our part! Thanks you to all of you artists that help us hang on by expressing yourselves.

Art Tuesday the Ides of March

03/15/2016
Soothsayer. Beware the ides of March.Caesar. What man is that?Brutus. A soothsayer bids you beware the ides of March.
William Shakespeare
The Ides of March is a day on the Roman calendar that corresponds to March 15th. It became notorious as the date of the assassination of Julius Caesar.
Today is March 15th, but it is also Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media, and we found a suitably "soothsayer" styled offering from our recent business visit to New Orleans.
This painting on board is one of two in the series. The second piece is retained by the artist in his personal collection. In spending time with him, he told me it had been "offered" for some time, but no one was interested in it.
Odd. It haunted us immediately, which is how it ought to be. We now have a new nickname for this painting in the office. "Ides".

Art Tuesday Perspective Checking

02/23/2016

It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media and today we are focused on perspective. We are not speaking of artistic meaning of the word, but in terms of “changing” ours.

This Howard Finster-esque picture is by Colette (7). It was only natural for her to see a board with blue-green paint on it and assume it was a “canvas”. It was an ocean ready to be filled with fish. What it was, in fact, was a test board to choose a front door color for a beach rental property.

How you look at something determines its value to you, as well as how you approach and employ it. Having children around can often impart some of the most important lessons, ones we had learned long ago but forgotten,

In our business lives, change is a constant. Being able to see that change as a canvas ready to be painted is a valuable skill, and one we needed to be reminded to employ.

Art-Tuesday - Haunting Art

02/16/2016

Art speaks to us. When we hear but fail to listen, it often haunts us. We are not talking about “decorative” Art, but of the soul sharing, emotionally explicit variety of Art. It is the kind of Art that makes you uncomfortable.

When something speaks to you and you walk away have you lost out or does the haunting mean as much as the initial experience? Does being memorable have as much value as being present?

For advertisers, is the message and imagery that stays with people more important than continued exposure?

Art Tuesday Color Juxtaposition

01/26/2016

It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media and today we are featuring a small piece in our favorite vivid red by Shelly Leitheiser. Her work appeals to us for both its color and imagery. Art gives you the freedom to express yourself outside of what is literally visible. In this picture, we are compelled by the juxtaposition of color with subject matter. The full blown red color as a background for penguins is a surprise. The common theme of putting penguins in cold, blue and white settings where they naturally reside is turned on its head in this work we have nicknamed “Penguin Inferno”.

What appeals about Penguin Inferno, is the complete departure from what is expected. In this case departure is achieved through color. Can changing advertising color backgrounds have the same impact? Would having the unexpected as a part of the visual experience enhance or retard response to an offer? Playing with color in art is intrinsic. Playing with color in advertising is risky. Sometimes. Risk and reward go hand in hand. Be bold in testing, but do it in small controlled quantities.

Always be bold in expressing yourself through Art.

Art Tuesday Organic Growth

01/12/2016

It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media and today we are featuring a piece titles Morris Green. Outside of our normal buying patterns, this piece appealed to us with its Organic pattern and coloring. Nature and grounding are both excellent visual triggers for this new year.

In thinking about Organic, we can help address the issue of customer growth. Should marketing departments be focused on Organic Growth, or New Customer Acquisition? Doubling your existing client’s AOV (Average Order Value) can be as significant and at the same time considerably less costly than acquiring new customers. While the goal is to gain market-share; sometimes, focusing internally can accomplish that goal as effectively as outbound efforts. Organic is awesome.

Art Tuesday Pink is the New Autumn

11/17/2015

It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media and this week we are working on Canadian Media profiles, so we thought we would highlight this Autumnal maple leaf impression on tissue.

Donated to the office by Colette, Age 6, it adds cheery color on some rainy and cold days without robbing itself of the feeling of the season.

Pink is the new Autumn! On a serious note, often stepping back and viewing a problem or project through a different lens can lead to spectacular results.

Art Tuesday Effervescence

11/03/2015

It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media, and today's Art is by Shelly Leitheiser. When we look at this piece, we see effervescence. The bubbling up of energy and color. It suggests movement and life in Art that is only really color.

Impressions made through shape and color can dramatically impact the feeling evoked by an image. When advertisers choose the wrong colors and shapes, they are sending the wrong message before they even begin to speak about their products.

Being conscious of the impact made by both color and shape is crucial to delivering the intended message.

Art Tuesday - Comic Book Art

10/27/2015

It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media, and we are highlighting a signed print that is out of our normal pattern. It boasts tremendous color and detail. The comic book artist, Shelton LeBron, gifted it to us and we love it.

The right hand side of the face is reminiscent of the King on a playing card. The left is an industrial interpretation of the same character.

We enjoy both the vibrancy and the detail in this piece, and have it hanging in our kitchen next to our own comic book art creation from Super Hero Day!

Long live the creative mind, and the generous spirit that would gift someone a piece of Art.

Art Tuesday - The Appeal of Rural Markets

10/20/2015

It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media, and this week's feature is titled "Wired". It is a 3 X 4 dry-point etching by Lafayette, LA artist Bonnie Camos.

Weather it is dove or crows, the image of birds sitting on a telephone wire is evocative of driving through the rural landscape. Just looking at the picture makes you want to jump in a truck and take off to where there are fields on either side of the road.

The "romance" of a quiet country life has incredible appeal, and small triggers like this etching make it hard to resist.

Art Tuesday - Color in Advertising

09/29/2015

It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media and we want to talk about color. We know that in advertising darker colors like green and blue are used to convey the feeling of stability. Favorites of financial institutions these "cool" colors are often also defined as masculine.

So what happens when you combine these stable, masculine colors with chaotic pattern, or with the freedom of no pattern?

Is a lack of control executed in blue jarring, whereas a lack of control in red is anticipated?

We found this blue piece by Shelly Leitheiser to be so organic in its appeal that we simply did not care, Not normally buyers of Blue art, we threw caution to the wind. Sometimes you have to get out of your comfort zone.

Art Tuesday Urbnpop Wood Burning

09/15/2015

It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media and today we are excited to show you our newest addition from URBNPOP. This adorable horned and helmeted monster is a magnet. We haven't seen wood burning outside of the rustic country arena in so many years we were surprised when we encountered it here.

The combination of the wood burning with the monster subject matter strikes us as just wrong enough to be perfectly right!
Often the "off-kilter" is striking, and memorable. You don't have to scream to be heard. Sometimes you just have to whisper and be a little cheeky.

Cheers URBNPOP! Thanks for the gift. Urbnpop.com

Art Tuesday Shelton La Bron The Red 1

08/18/2015

It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media and we are sharing a new acquisition which is a 4 X 4 finished sized wrapped canvas. This painting is, oddly enough, by a comic book artist Shelton La Bron. It is titled “The Red 1”. It is a highly detailed execution of a tree in autumn. The idea of a crisp cool autumn day is compelling during the hot summer heat of Atlanta.

Being attracted to an autumnal scene in summer begs the question, “How do seasonal swings impact product sales and the positioning of marketing?” While it is hard to sell sweaters in summer it is easy to sell ice cream. August is the highest grossing month for ice cream sales.

If you are an artist, break out your winter scenes and sell away before the weather turns.

Art Tuesday Artists Business Cards

08/11/2015

It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media, and today we are posing a question. "How do artists see themselves?"

Often when you meet the artist behind a piece of work, it can be very surprising. They can be larger than life or surprisingly reserved despite what they will reveal through their craft.

Most intriguing is how they present themselves in their marketing. We think the business card for S.D. Meadows not only captures the spirit of the Art produced, but gives you a glimpse at the character of the man.

This is the best business card we have seen in quite a while (and we design a lot of them). It captures the character of the artist, but allows him to transact business as well.

Art Tuesday Nicolin and Suggestive Art

08/04/2015

It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media, and this week we are featuring one of brighter pieces. This signed print is by Charlotte Nicolin, a Swedish born artist that we know from Montreal. Her art focuses on nature and the marine world. This picture is titled "The Kiss" , not to be confused with the Gutsav Klimt masterpiece.

It is playful, colorful and suggestive. We can't help thinking Rorschach, The provocative nature of the picture is not subtle, but it is offset by the addition of the kissing frogs.

Modern advertising campaigns tend to lack subtlety all together offering no offset, Does that lead to more engagement or better recall?

Art Tuesday Hanged Man Bat

07/28/2015

It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media, and today we are continuing with our Bat theme. This picture is actually a Tarot card, the Hanged Man. We own the original of the "Six of Bones" (Pentacles) in this entirely wooden representation of the Tarot deck. All of the images come from nature.

We love the cheekiness of the Hanged Man being a bat, When artists make you smile with their wit, it is an extra bonus.

Art Tuesday Is it Art?

07/21/2015

And the first rude sketch that the world had seen was joy to his mighty heart, till the Devil whispered behind the leaves 'It's pretty, but is it Art?' Rudyard Kipling

It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media and this week we thought we would have a bit of fun! Is it Art? What a great question. We ask that time and again within the office even after we have made a new purchase.

Is this Art? No. It is a cast iron mermaid wearing a pair of Monster High plastic shoes. It is the product of an unfettered 6 year old imagination which is even more beautiful than if it were "Art".

Art Tuesday "West" of El Segundo

07/14/2015

It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media and we are in Texas traveling for business - which of course being Texas is also fun! SInce we are in longhorn country we thought we would take some time on Art Tuesday to highlight one of our favorite pieces of "Cow Art". We have several, but we love this black and white version of Robert Anschutz's " "West" of El Segundo".

Robert is known for his brilliant backdrops with huge color impact, but taking the work back to black and white shows the power of the image itself. Beautiful!

So happy to be back in Texas!

Art Tuesday Folk Art

07/07/2015

It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media and we are in a folk art mood after our all-American long weekend. This Folk Art piece is reminiscent of the earlier tramp art, but has the addition of vibrant color and mementos. The Churchill Downs betting chit is marked 1970.

This piece hangs in our hallway and reminds us that crafty marketers of today's era would have an advertisement on the back of those tickets!

Art Tuesday Is a Doodle Art?

06/16/2015

It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media and we have been posed the question “Is a doodle Art?”

“A doodle is a drawing made while a person's attention is otherwise occupied. Doodles are simple drawings that can have concrete representational meaning or may just be abstract shapes.” according to Wikipedia.

What differentiates the doodle is the “artist’s” focus of attention, not their execution. Our vote is that doodling is Art of one of the purest forms. The doodle often speaks form the subconscious rather than a conscious effort. It produces something more telling, that is far less controlled in its execution. To anyone who really believes in art, this is true beauty.

This doodle is from a business meeting on a back porch. Two people different styles, but not in conflict.

Art Tuesday Linoleum Block Print

06/09/2015

It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media and we are excited to share a Linoleum Stamped Print from 1961.  The Artists was Patricia Donohue. Created as a Christmas card on bonded cotton paper, this reindeer motif is created by craving out solid forms form a piece of linoleum. Linoleum Block Printing or Linocuts were very popular in the 1960’s. We are excited to showcase this today not only because we love the strong graphic imagery, but because it is a stamp, and we are absorbed in our stamp client Expressionery.com for Q3 and Q4 efforts right now so the tie in feels appropriate.

Art Tuesday - Brent Woodside Clarity of Image

05/26/2015

It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media, and we are excited to share a black and white illustration by Brent Woodside. This image immediately resonated with us, because it is so reminiscent of the Rorschach prints we have been posting. While this is a clearly defined image of a “creature and rider”, it has style elements that we see in the inkblots.

Today’s Art Tuesday selection brings up a good point about fluid images. The lack of clarity in the image is a boon in the art piece. It sets a tone, and is suggestive of detail that is never executed. Can that type of messaging with images be successful in advertising? That is a harder sell. Clarity of message is key to successful campaigns, and IMAGE is a significant part of that messaging.

Art Tuesday Quote Obsessed

05/12/2015

It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media and today we wanted to highlight this new piece we bought on a whim at the farmer’s market.  It is a fortune cookie with a quote coming out of it. Is it Art? Yes, but to a greater degree the “quote” is what compels the purchase.

From social media posts, to ad campaigns, America has become “quote obsessed”. T-shirts, mugs, e-cards, pillows, and tote bags are all emblazoned with our deepest inner thoughts.

As an advertiser, coming up with a catchy tag line can be golden. The resonance of your message can create a buzz, and grass roots adoption beyond anything your ad spend could generate. Here are a few of our favorites that have caught on and been adopted.

Grab a Heiney!

Art Tuesday National Superhero Day

04/28/2015
Today, April 28th is National Superhero Day, a day to celebrate the superheros that have inspired us. It is also Art Tuesday, so we thought we would have some fun and combine the two.We didn't have any Superhero art hanging around, so we we created some. This mixed media collage on board is 3 dimensional with different tiers in the wood, and it is over-painted to highlight our favorite elements.Sometimes, it is good to get your hands dirty. It gives you a new perspective. This is going up in our break room.

We encourage everyone to get out there and be Super today!

Art Tuesday SImple Pictures

04/14/2015
It's Art Tuesday again at Elarbee Media. This week we have one of our smallest art pieces on display. Measuring a mere 2" X 3.25"
this mixed media piece combines, color wax and nails on a wood.
The extremely primitive drawing is childlike in its simplicity, but manages to evoke the calmness of a sunny day at the beach. We love the three nails that stick up out of the board about a 1/4 of an inch. Cheeky! Just like us.
In art, and in advertising, sometimes simple pictures are the best way of conveying a message.

Art Tuesday Bold Red Gold

03/31/2015
It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media, and we wanted to talk about bold color today. In art color has meaning, evokes emotion and tells a story. This painting titled Red Gold by Hope Hebert has incredible strength of color.

In advertising, color can catch the eye and hold attention long enough to push the message. Be Bold, but be appropriate.

Art Tuesday Trees without Leaves

03/24/2015

It's Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media. This painting on board is one of many we have in the office of trees without their leaves. In fact we walked around and counted four of them. One is an oil, two are acrylics and one is a pastel. Do we keep buying the same thing because the imagery resonates with us? Perhaps. In advertising, is that also what compels us to buy? Imagery is a powerful tool in motivating emotionally driven decisions, but it can also impact your choice of laundry detergent. What imagery has recently made you consider making a purchase? Was it a product you didn't really need? Share with us!

Art Tuesday Donne Moi ta Bouche

02/10/2015
Its Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media! We thought this picture by our favorite French Canadian artist Luc Nadeau titled “Donne moi ta bouche”, would be a perfect tie in with one of our favorite “business” quotes.

Art Tuesday Black and White Warriors

02/03/2015
It’s Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media! This week we have chosen to highlight a black and white titled “Warriors”. This piece, circa 1971 by Stuart White, is only 3 X 5 unframed but the impact is so much larger.

The stark contrast of the heavy black ink on the white paper (now slightly yellowed) is powerful, and reminiscent of a Rorschach Test. Its simplicity begs the question – “When is less actually more?”

In advertising, we forget that simplicity sells. Ads are crammed with disclaimers, arrows, details and numbers; so much so that it can be hard to figure out what is being offered. Is the answer, clean, simple, stark but solid presentation as in “Warriors”. I think it is certainly worth a test.

Art Tuesday Breaux and the Power of Red

01/27/2015
It's Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media, and today we are excited to share a painting by Julie Breaux that was acquired in Lafayette, LA. You can almost smell the earthiness of the swampy water. This painting ads a dramatic shot of color in our common area despite its small size. This 8X8 boxed canvas drives color home with intensity.

For advertisers, Red is a very powerful and impacting color - as seen in this small execution, it can take over, or drive home the point. It is all in how it is used.

Art Tuesday We Love Texas

12/16/2014
It's Art Tuesday here at Elarbee Media, and we are excited to reveal our newest edition. This depiction of Texas will be one of the first pictures we hang in our new offices, and is particularly special as it was a gift.

We do indeed love Texas! We love the gift so much, we have decided to celebrate today as Texas Tuesday!

Art Tuesday Tree Frog and Kissing Princes

12/09/2014
It's Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media. This woodblock print, number 1 of 6, is titled "Amelia Island Tree Frog". It is by artist Paul Massino and is part of our acid green collection. It reminds us on a regular basis that you need to kiss a lot of frogs to find your prince.

In business, we kiss a lot of frogs when engaging new clients and prospects. Not all client relationships end up being purposeful or profitable; but we keep trying. We have happily found a few princes that we are proud to call clients.

Thanks to all of you "princes" for your support and continued relationship with Elarbee Media.

Art Tuesday Farewell to Our Old Office Themes

12/02/2014
It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media. When we first set up this office space, we created offices using unique color palates. The "Black and White" office has pops of red, the "Tiger" office is brown and orange, and the kitchen is acidic green.

We are excited to announce that we will be upgrading our space and expanding our offices at the first of the year. Before we leave here, I will be posting "Farewell office!" shots of each of the different color schemes.

Moving is an adventure, and always an opportunity for growth as well as editing. We cannot wait!

Art Tuesday Pirate Turkey

11/25/2014
It's Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media and in honor of Thanksgiving, we have chosen to highlight this stunning work by Rache Elarbee titled "Pirate Turkey". If you look closely, the turkey has a patch on one eye.

At Elarbee Media, we are thankful for these small treasures!

Art Tuesday Leaves and the Power of Color

11/18/2014
It’s Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media. “Leaves” is a black and white etching, that is then over-painted. Atlanta artist Marjorie Bowers achieves a photographic effect with her extremely detailed execution. Her pop of red makes the background almost “feel” frigidly cold, a perfect match for our weather here today.

In advertising, color also makes a huge impact on response. Focused color to enhance the call to action and overall color to stand out in a crowded media space are devices of the direct response creative professional. The use of color does create a “feel”, and can also impact brand resonance. Before you jump in with both feet make sure your color choice and placement are tailored to your audience. Focus groups, and small circulation test cells are a must before you align yourself with a particular color. Always keep in mind that there are tones within the colors too. Red is not Red is not Red.

Art Tuesday Yarn Art

Its Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media. We thought we would go interactive on this week's post. This is a piece of art we have over our sofa in the lobby. Who else loves yarn art?!

Art Tuesday 6 Bones for Halloween

10/28/2014
Its Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media. Here is our spooky and yet refined Halloween Week selection. It is titled the 6 of Bones. At first you don't notice the creepy sixth finger because the graphic detail of the hand itself is so stunning. It is subtle enough to elude your first glance.

What does this mean for business? Take a closer look. Things aren't always what they appear. Sometimes they are better, sometimes worse, sometimes
just not what you thought. We don't stop to test our assumptions often enough, we assume, and move forward. Always validate.

Art Tuesday Sculptor Ivan Baliey

10/14/2014
It’s Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media. We are lucky to have enough space in the office for a few pieces of sculpture among our favorite art selections. This piece is by the late Ivan Bailey of Georgia. The sculpture is of a snail crawling on an onion. It reminds me that slow growth is sustainable growth.

Art Tuesday Knabstrup Pottery

10/07/2014
It’s Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media. Today’s selection is this mid-century Danish earthenware platter from Knabstrup pottery. Who doesn’t love Danish Modern? I know I do, but that is likely because I grew up with it all around me. This platter is simple in form and simple in design. It is both earthy and honest. When you hold it you know someone else’s hands have touched it before yours. There is a sense of continuity in some pieces of art, like this one, that makes them comforting and that shouts of their integrity. In business, your character is your art piece. What will it shout?

Art Tuesday Rache's Apple

09/30/2014
It's Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media! I am so proud to show off our newest addition this week. Acid Green Apple, by Rache Elarbee. It is a pen holder for my desk, and the color is superb. This is my very first piece of clay art to come home from school, and oddly, it looks like it was made for my office. I can't wait to add it to the collection! No doubt, long after I have finished in advertising, this will have appreciated to being priceless.

Art Tuesday Autumn Transitions

09/23/2014
It’s Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media, and today we are celebrating the Autumnal Equinox when day and night are nearly equal lengths. This untitled wood block print is equal parts dark and light, symbolizing the equinox. The artist has used the autumnal color orange to boot! It is one of our more stark and graphic pieces here, but I always notice it transitions from dark to light. What does this time of year mean for business? A transition in thinking from this year to next, preparing for and securing next year. There is a full quarter of this year left ahead of us as well though.

Art Tuesday Wishbone

09/16/2014
It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media. This week in honor of our travel to Las Vegas for the E.R.A Show, we chose to highlight this sterling wishbone. The joys of business travel are limitless! (sarcasm) Hopefully this little silver wishbone makes this week's trip not only tolerable, but fruitful. Cheers to all of you road warriors out there! The Elarbee Media team hopes your travels this week are also safe and productive.

Art Tuesday Earthy Color

09/09/2014
It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media! Today’s painting is in my office opposite my desk, and is what I look at every time I look up from my computer. It’s a large canvas about 4 feet wide by 5.5 feet tall. It coincidentally carries all of the colors that I chose for my personal office space (greens, browns, yellows, oranges and teal blues). Colors have meanings and are symbolic to us as people; all of these colors are earthy and centering to me personally. In advertising, colors have symbolic meaning too. Pale pink is a tough sell for a truck ad.

Art Tuesday Blue and White Graphics

09/02/2014
It’s Art Tuesday again at Elarbee Media! This week’s picture is a highly textured abstract piece in blue and white. It begs the following questions: Is what we see what really appeals to us? How much of the appeal is in the desire to touch and feel what we see? Is the compulsion to reach out for something more important than the resonance of the message? It might just be.

Art Tuesday Make Art Matter

08/26/2014
It’s Art Tuesday again at Elarbee Media. This painting of a leaf floating over the water is one my Mom painted in the sixties. I have always loved it. As a child, it reminded me of the highly stylized doves that were embroidered on the panels at church. It was always a stretched canvas growing up – unframed. About 7 years ago, I found some vintage framing materials, and had my friend Charles finally frame the painting. Because it is from my mother, and evokes strong memories of my childhood, it brings me a sense of peace and calm at the office. This picture hangs in our reception area, over our couch. What is the business lesson? There isn’t one – except the following. Wherever you are, and whatever adventure you embark on, embrace and keep close those things that bring you peace, calm and remind you of those you love.

Art Tuesday Tough Day

08/19/2014
Having a rough day, dear? Well it's Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media again and this sixties pottery mask looks like it has had a “rough day." It is one of a collection of five in earth tones in our Creative Director’s office. Hopefully she has a better time at Elarbee Media than he does!Always remember, tomorrow is another day! We’d like to make it better. Let us know how we can help!

Art Tuesday Color and Pattern

08/12/2014
It’s ‪#‎ArtTuesday‬ again at Elarbee Media! This week’s selection of our company art is a set of four highly colored giclée pictures. These are four interpretations of the same image, repeated, but re-interpreted.In advertising, repetition is key to making sure the message is driven home. Some advertisers may choose to place an ad that is a carbon copy across all platforms, others may choose a repetitive approach similar to this week’s art -- varied for interest.Interested in learning more on the concept of the repeated message? Art Tuesday Perception Lense

08/05/2014
It’s Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media! This painting has an inclusion in the belly, which is full of pills suspended in clear gel. When I look at the painting, rather than finding it “dark," I see the figure as showering down good wishes (represented by the X’s). In art, life and business, the same thing can have different interpretations depending on what attitude you bring to the table. Is a crisis a crisis, or an opportunity to embrace change? Does a positive, “roll up your sleeves and get busy” attitude make the difference? Does changing the attitude you bring to the table affect the outcome?

It’s Art Tuesday again at Elarbee Media. This photo of the "love locks" in Paris was taken by my brother. Use this as a reminder that if you are in a contested category, August is the time to lock up your 2015 contracts. With appropriate cancellation policies in place of course!

Art Tuesday Photography is Art

07/22/2014
Is photography an art? You bet! After spending the past month doing product photography for a new consumer website, we at Elarbee Media know that there is a big difference between “pushing a button” and creating an image. Making uppers, lowers and gaskets look sexy is hard work- and YES, it is an art. Cheers to all of you photographers out there that make it look easy.

Art Tuesday Targeting

07/08/2014
It's Art Tuesday and today I made the connection between this painting on wood I bought in South Africa and the phrase “who are you trying to reach?"The artist reached me with this painting, but often advertisers aren't so lucking in hitting their target audiences. The key to getting it right starts with knowing your audience and reaching them through the right channel with a message that will resonate.Hopefully, artists will continue to create without the restriction of what is commercially viable. For the rest of us, here is some useful direction for reaching your target audience ---> http://bit.ly/SXxgct

Art Tuesday Macrame and Digital Advertising Trends

07/01/2014
It's Art Tuesday! Macrame: who of a certain age doesn't know it and fear its resurrection? We love this awesome Taurus piece in our office, but dread the thought of seeing another plant hanger with beads woven in to add that “pop” of color. Trends, like the macrame of the '70s, are opportunities, and traps alike in business. For what they are worth, here are some of the current digital advertising trends you may want to watch for: http://read.bi/1iLcrYg

Art Tuesday Naked Art

06/17/2014
Naked Art!The Art at Elarbee Media is certainly eclectic; I buy it when I feel compelled by it. Often, it is a cheap nothing that speaks to a memory from childhood, but it can also be a significant investment that helps me realize I have reached a milestone in my life. Art that speaks to me is very rarely something with a broad appeal-- and almost always something that is very telling about my character. My children mentioned to me the other day that I have quite a bit of art in my home, and in my office that is in their words “Naked Art”. I love the phrase “Naked Art” because I have always believed that that is what “art” is – an idea or concept laid naked before other’s eyes to see. How daunting to put yourself out there for criticism and show who you really are without reservation. Kudos to all of you brave enough to do it.
My favorite art story of all time is my Mother’s. In the late 60’s she painted a nude with a snail coming out of her belly button. The State University of New York offered to buy it from her, but she had already accepted an offer from a private buyer so she declined. She sold the painting to a man who took it home, and was promptly told it was “filth” and to go get his money back. She gave it back, but she had lost the SUNY commission. I heard the story many, many times as a child. My parents needed that money. Their loss of money was nothing compared to the void of beauty and understanding the person who deemed it “filth” must have been living in. No matter what we had, at least we grew up with a love of and exposure to art, and an open-mindedness about culture. Sadly, the painting itself did not survive – I would have loved to be its guardian today if it did. What does this have to do with business? ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING! Except to reinforce the concept that when something is true, and you believe in its character-- be it an idea, a campaign, a method of moving forward, it is always worth it to defend your “naked” assumptions. Your gut tells you what is right and what is wrong – that is instinct, instilled in us by nature. Defining and expressing it in art, or in a business judgment shows everyone we interact with who we really are – stripped down and “naked”.Cheers to all of you artists out there that have the belief in yourself that lets you put everything out there!Long Live “Naked Art”!

Art Tuesday Green Advertising

06/03/2014
We’ve seen an increase in client interest in advertising the “green” nature of their products. Do consumers see this as an advertising strategy? Or are they genuinely interested to learn how businesses are embracing change and more environmentally conscious practices? Overall, results are mixed in the marketplace.Either way, this compelling painting by one of our favorite artists, Brian Barnard, prompts us to consider the issue.Let us know what you think. ‪#‎ArtTuesday‬
