    Let's Talk About Stuff.

Our goal in posting our blogs is three fold: To introduce timely industry news that is relevant to our clients; to post items we find interesting and entertaining, and finally, to give you a glimpse of TSW US “Behind the Curtain”. We take the business aspects of what we are doing very seriously, but we like to have fun, hopefully that shines through here.

Our Blog is a puzzle being assembled. Sometimes the individual pieces of the puzzle don’t look like the whole picture once completed – You have to keep adding pieces one at a time to make the image clear. We hope you keep coming back to see how the TSW US puzzle takes shape.

Wit & Wisdom Wednesday Napoleon

“A leader is a dealer in hope.” Napoleon Bonaparte. While I compulsively credit the French on all thing culinary and all things wine, it is a rare day when I credit the French on business. While Napoleon may not be a strictly “business” translation, running an army, running a country and running an empire are all fairly strong skill sets, and ones that I admire as a business person. When I come across natural leaders in my business life, I am always drawn by their charisma. I also remark that they are very infrequently the people with the highest ranking title in the organization. To deal in hope, you have to start with empathy.

Art Tuesday Knabstrup Pottery

It’s Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media. Today’s selection is this mid-century Danish earthenware platter from Knabstrup pottery. Who doesn’t love Danish Modern? I know I do, but that is likely because I grew up with it all around me. This platter is simple in form and simple in design. It is both earthy and honest. When you hold it you know someone else’s hands have touched it before yours. There is a sense of continuity in some pieces of art, like this one, that makes them comforting and that shouts of their integrity. In business, your character is your art piece. What will it shout?

It’s Cocktail Friday at Elarbee Media. Today we would like to pay tribute to an iconic “friend”, Mr. Boston. This classic red and black book reminds us that no matter how knowledgeable and worldly you are, sometimes you simply have to refer to an expert. Your cocktails will taste better that way.For businesses, trying to keep all-things in house can backfire. Hire in experts that you use when needed and don’t have to add to your payroll. Get your outside expert to pay for the cocktails. Between that and the business advantage you can’t lose!

Throwback Thursday Braniff, Believe It!

Throwback Thursday has special meaning for business travelers. When traveling via airplane in the past, you used to get a deck of cards, as many mini-bottles as you needed, and a smiling “air-hostess.” Now you get from point A to point B. Air travel is now certainly more affordable, but a lot less enjoyable. One of my favorite ad slogans is from a now defunct airline and culture that used to weigh their staff in to see if they could keep their job. It really wasn’t that long ago, but it seems surreal. “Braniff, Believe It!”

Wit & Wisdom Wednesday Maggie Thatcher

“Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, you aren’t.” - Margaret Thatcher Many times when companies tell you how great their product is, how great their tracking is and how great their team is, but they are still floundering, you’ve got to wonder where the “false lady” is hiding. Sometimes making the necessary changes for success is a painful and introspective process. What we were at our peak is not necessarily what we are now. Fear of changing to suit the current environment and the current need is the surest way to fail. That is one scary pointed finger.

Art Tuesday Rache's Apple

It's Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media! I am so proud to show off our newest addition this week. Acid Green Apple, by Rache Elarbee. It is a pen holder for my desk, and the color is superb. This is my very first piece of clay art to come home from school, and oddly, it looks like it was made for my office. I can't wait to add it to the collection! No doubt, long after I have finished in advertising, this will have appreciated to being priceless.

Cocktail Friday Is Bigger Better?

09/26/2014
It’s Cocktail Friday at Elarbee Media! This week’s vintage cocktail item is a set of rooster embossed cocktail glasses. They would only hold about 4 ounces of anything, but are quite stylish. When I see the size of older items, cocktail items or even vintage clothes, I wonder whether or not our concept of “bigger is better” has backfired. Is selling large volumes at a discount necessarily better than selling quality at a premium price? Have we gone too far down the road of volume discounting to double back and change?Either way, these rooster glasses will come in handy this afternoon -- even if I have to fill them frequently.

“Outstanding leaders go out of their way to boost the self-esteem of their personnel. If people believe in themselves, it’s amazing what they can accomplish.” - Sam WaltonIt’s Wisdom Wednesday at Elarbee Media. Insights, both business and personal, come from many sources. Some of our favorites may surprise you. This particular quote, whether or not you are a Walmart fan, is a great reminder to us all. Positive re-enforcement pays off.

Art Tuesday Autumn Transitions

09/23/2014
It’s Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media, and today we are celebrating the Autumnal Equinox when day and night are nearly equal lengths. This untitled wood block print is equal parts dark and light, symbolizing the equinox. The artist has used the autumnal color orange to boot! It is one of our more stark and graphic pieces here, but I always notice it transitions from dark to light. What does this time of year mean for business? A transition in thinking from this year to next, preparing for and securing next year. There is a full quarter of this year left ahead of us as well though.
