Our goal in posting our blogs is three fold: To introduce timely industry news that is relevant to our clients; to post items we find interesting and entertaining, and finally, to give you a glimpse of TSW US “Behind the Curtain”. We take the business aspects of what we are doing very seriously, but we like to have fun, hopefully that shines through here.
Our Blog is a puzzle being assembled. Sometimes the individual pieces of the puzzle don’t look like the whole picture once completed – You have to keep adding pieces one at a time to make the image clear. We hope you keep coming back to see how the TSW US puzzle takes shape.
Wit & Wisdom Wednesday - Washington Irving on Spell-Casting

It is Wit & Wisdom Wednesday at Elarbee Media, and in honor of Halloween we thought we would quote Washington Irving author of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. What does this mean to us? Sensual impact is fleeting, but if you can reach deeper, and make a connection it is truly is magical.
This quote is incredibly applicable to advertising. Sensory bombardment is one thing, but the lasting impact of a campaign that has a true emotional appeal is another. Allowing the consumer to engage with their imagination to either see themselves in a new light because of a product, or to bond with the product philosophy is indeed spell-casting.
Art Tuesday - Comic Book Art
It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media, and we are highlighting a signed print that is out of our normal pattern. It boasts tremendous color and detail. The comic book artist, Shelton LeBron, gifted it to us and we love it.
The right hand side of the face is reminiscent of the King on a playing card. The left is an industrial interpretation of the same character.
We enjoy both the vibrancy and the detail in this piece, and have it hanging in our kitchen next to our own comic book art creation from Super Hero Day!
Long live the creative mind, and the generous spirit that would gift someone a piece of Art.

Cocktail Friday International Bottle Caps
It is Cocktail Friday at Elarbee Media, and we are feeling international after so much coverage of the Canadian Elections this past week.
We are also very excited to announce our speaking engagement at McGill University in Montreal this coming February. More details to follow closer to the event date.
Throwback Thursday Madge for Palmolive
It is Throwback Thursday at Elarbee Media, and today we have brought back Madge. In this long running campaign for Palmolive dish-washing liquid there is no celebrity spokesperson. There is a created character. Similar to the Flo of Progressive ads of today, the advertising character becomes an icon through repeated viewing.
The "everyday" character of these women makes them believable. They are not slick. They are working class people, This gives them a comfortable feel to the reader or viewer, allowing you to get the message across effectively.
Madge is not an aspirational image. She is your next door neighbor or close friend, and therefore can be trusted to deliver you an advertising message that must be true.
Two thumbs up. Plus we love the uniform with the embroidered name on it,
Wit & Wisdom Wednesday - Patton on Decision Making
"No good decision was ever made in a swivel chair." George S. Patton
It is Wit & Wisdom Wednesday at Elarbee Media, and we love this quote. We don't hate swivel chairs, but we do recognize that they symbolize detached decision making. Hands on experience and understanding of a situation is not only recommended, it is necessary.
Exposure to the practical application of decisions is critical to ensuring they yield the intended results. Not only does that require getting our of the "swivel chair", it requires due diligence before the decisions are made.
Art Tuesday - The Appeal of Rural Markets
It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media, and this week's feature is titled "Wired". It is a 3 X 4 dry-point etching by Lafayette, LA artist Bonnie Camos.
Weather it is dove or crows, the image of birds sitting on a telephone wire is evocative of driving through the rural landscape. Just looking at the picture makes you want to jump in a truck and take off to where there are fields on either side of the road.
The "romance" of a quiet country life has incredible appeal, and small triggers like this etching make it hard to resist.
Power of Imagery - Rorschach Plate VII
In a segment The Specialist Works US calls the Power of Imagery we look at Rorschach slides to inspire our conversation on advertising images and layout elements. This week's Plate VII, though evocative, is sparse in its color and its presence.
Is less more? In this case it likely is. Do advertisers take on too much in a single full page ad? Is the suggestion more powerful than the disclosure?
Subtle vs. Blatant. Weigh in. We'd love to hear from you.
Wit & Wisdom Wednesday - Caldwell on Listening

We love Southern literature at Elarbee Media. Erskine Caldwell's God's Little Acre was the first "First Edition" purchase we made. Erskine Caldwell himself gives us a truth in his statement that is so powerful it is easy to overlook.
Listening is an Art. You can not understand how to deliver the cure if you don't listen to the symptoms of the disease. It is all too easy to try to push solutions without listening to problems.
Listening is not about hearing the words, it is also hearing the cadence, and tone. Language is a gift, tool and weapon. Listen and hear so that you are prepared. People tell you more than you imagine in a simple sentence.
