Our Blog
Our goal in posting our blogs is three fold: To introduce timely industry news that is relevant to our clients; to post items we find interesting and entertaining, and finally, to give you a glimpse of TSW US “Behind the Curtain”. We take the business aspects of what we are doing very seriously, but we like to have fun, hopefully that shines through here.
Our Blog is a puzzle being assembled. Sometimes the individual pieces of the puzzle don’t look like the whole picture once completed – You have to keep adding pieces one at a time to make the image clear. We hope you keep coming back to see how the TSW US puzzle takes shape.
Cocktail Friday Hot Toddy
It is Cocktail Friday at Elarbee Media. To combat the incoming cold weather, and keep your throat and palate happy, we thought we would share our favorite Hot Toddy recipe.
INGREDIENTS:
2 tablespoons honey
3 fingers of bourbon
Juice from half a lemon
1 cinnamon stick
This one is served in a cork lined copper bottomed glass to keep the heat in.
Often we find that we don't have a cinnamon stick, a fresh lemon or honey. And we don't bother to heat the bourbon. It still makes us feel warm on a cold day. Cheers!
Throwback Thursday Reddi-Wip and Jello-o
It is Throwback Thursday at Elarbee Media and today we are highlighting a vintage ad for Reddi-Wip. You know it is old because it features Jell-o. We still love it! Plenty of white space, and a strong central image with red as the feature color makes this right up our alley.
We can't help but think that the ad copy translates into today's lexicon as much dicier than it was intended in the 70's. That is why reviewing old ads is so much fun.
Wit & Wisdom Wednesday - Twain on Facts
"Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please." Mark Twain
It is Wit & Wisdom Wednesday at Elarbee Media and in our minds you can't go wrong with a quote from Mark Twain, or indeed with one from Samuel Clemons. Always witty, these quotes are painfully truthful. In this week's selection we examine "facts". The value of a fact depends on what is shared, and what is withheld.
From a business perspective, due diligence and data mining have tremendous value. Sadly though, facts don't always mean what you believe they mean. Before making significant investments based on "facts" test their validity.
Art Tuesday Effervescence
It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media, and today's Art is by Shelly Leitheiser. When we look at this piece, we see effervescence. The bubbling up of energy and color. It suggests movement and life in Art that is only really color.
Impressions made through shape and color can dramatically impact the feeling evoked by an image. When advertisers choose the wrong colors and shapes, they are sending the wrong message before they even begin to speak about their products.
Being conscious of the impact made by both color and shape is crucial to delivering the intended message.
Happy Holiday it is Halloween
We hope The Great Pumpkin brings you many happy returns of the day!
Cocktail Friday Skull Ice Cubes in Bourbon
It is Cocktail Friday at Elarbee Media, and it is also the Friday before Halloween, one of our favorite holidays. In honor of the upcoming festivities, we froze some Skull and Crossbones ice-cubes to celebrate.
Can you see how nicely the eye-sockets set off the amber tones of the Bourbon? Sublime.
Wishing you and yours a very happy and safe Halloween!
Throwback Thursday Monster Cereals
It is Throwback Thursday at Elarbee Media and in honor of Halloween, we thought we would highlight this vintage Monster Cereals ad. This one has Franken-Berry and Count Chocula. From 1976, this offer not only gives you a free iron on decal for your t-shirt so you can advertise the product for them, it also has a 10 cent coupon.
Brilliant! They don't even have to pay for the t-shirt, just the decal. (And you know we all used them)
Wit & Wisdom Wednesday - Washington Irving on Spell-Casting
"He is the true enchanter, whose spell operates, not upon the senses, but upon the imagination and the heart." Washington Irving
It is Wit & Wisdom Wednesday at Elarbee Media, and in honor of Halloween we thought we would quote Washington Irving author of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. What does this mean to us? Sensual impact is fleeting, but if you can reach deeper, and make a connection it is truly is magical.
This quote is incredibly applicable to advertising. Sensory bombardment is one thing, but the lasting impact of a campaign that has a true emotional appeal is another. Allowing the consumer to engage with their imagination to either see themselves in a new light because of a product, or to bond with the product philosophy is indeed spell-casting.
Art Tuesday - Comic Book Art
It is Art Tuesday at Elarbee Media, and we are highlighting a signed print that is out of our normal pattern. It boasts tremendous color and detail. The comic book artist, Shelton LeBron, gifted it to us and we love it.
The right hand side of the face is reminiscent of the King on a playing card. The left is an industrial interpretation of the same character.
We enjoy both the vibrancy and the detail in this piece, and have it hanging in our kitchen next to our own comic book art creation from Super Hero Day!
Long live the creative mind, and the generous spirit that would gift someone a piece of Art.
